China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp.'s (CGNPC) Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Phase I Project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on 15 July 2010. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin toward the end of August 2010. Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Project is in Hongxing Village, of Fangchenggang City, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The project has a total planned capacity of six 1000MW nuclear power units. Of which, two 1080MW nuclear power units, which are based on China's improved pressurized water reactor, namely CGNPC's CPR1000 technology, are to be built in Phase I, with a total estimated investment of USD 3.53 billion. According to the Cooperative Framework Agreement signed between the CGNPC and the government of Guangxi Zhuang, the project is to be jointly invested by the CGNPC and Guangxi Investment Group Co., an investment company under the control of Guangxi Zhuang.
