A recent meeting of the Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC) has resulted in the establishment of a new task group on polymeric piping, which is now seeking members. Forty-one stakeholders gathered in person and through teleconference to address areas of interest for the NESCC and its constituents.

To address chronic power shortages that are becoming a serious problem for both general and industrial purposes, the Cambodian government has started looking at building its first nuclear plant. The country will work with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on safety procedures in plant operations, maintenance and waste disposal.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has finalized the transfer of the possession license for the Zion Nuclear Power Station from Exelon Generating Co. LLC to ZionSolutions LLC. The license transfer is effective as of 2 September 2010.

Cammell Laird has recently signed to partner with Nuvia for nuclear construction work. The companies said they would "join forces to bid for contracts for the fabrication of heavy modules and components for new nuclear plants." While Cammell Laird will bring manufacturing capability, Nuvia will provide the nuclear expertise.

Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) has announced the appointment of Dr Robert Walker as Senior VP responsible for AECL's Nuclear Laboratories. The appointment is effective 15 November 2010. Dr Walker's primary responsibility will be leading AECL's research and development (R&D) efforts in physics, metallurgy, chemistry, biology and engineering.
